The historic Gipfel Union Brewery, standing at 423-427 W. Juneau Avenue since 1853, was moved one block east and across the street, next to the equally historical Sydney Hih building at Juneau and N. Old World 3rd St., on March 18, 2007.

The Gipfel Union Brewery was erected in 1853, part of "Brewery Row," a stretch of brewing companies that once lined Juneau Ave. from Pabst on the west to Blatz on the east. David and Carl Gipfel brewed Weissbier (white beer) there until 1892. Since then, the building has been home to everything from harness manufacture and leather goods, soap-making and lastly, restaurant supplies.

The building won city historic designation in 1985, because it is a rare local example of Federal-style architecture and because it is one of Milwaukee's oldest standing buildings of any kind.
